The Ralph Cook Summer Sports Camp Scholarship is named after Rio Vista Athletics co-founder and Rio Vista High School teacher, Kelli (Cook) Mahoney’s father. Ralph was a father, husband, coach, friend, and many other things to the people he loved. When he passed away, Kelli wanted to remember him in a way that benefited others and honored the things he stood for. Now years later this dream has come true. Ralph always put his family and those around him first. If anybody needed a baseball glove, money for a team dinner, or anything along those lines he was the first to volunteer. He was a big lover and supporter of his community in Atwater, CA. Ralph knew all the kids that Kelli and her brother, Kevin, grew up with and loved hearing their stories and what they were doing. He celebrated their wins and successes, even cutting out newspaper articles to share with Kelli and Kevin. Ralph was involved in sports, playing college basketball, running, bicycling, and coaching softball, baseball, and basketball at different periods in his life. He believed education and athletics are a strong foundation for success in life and this scholarship honors that principle. It gives the chance for betterment through hard work, education, sports, and the community outreach Ralph Cook believed in.
When you apply, you acknowledge the same values and love for personal growth. We thank all the applicants for your hard work and dedication to athletics and academics.
